When I try to load the Semantic Search Engine I get an "Applet not loaded" error. What's happening? You probably haven't installed the Java Plug-in. For your browser to be able to display the Semantic Search Engine you need to install the Java Plug-in first. You can download the plug-in from |

When I try to load an ontology in the Semantic Search Engine I get a "Could not connect with Ontology Server" error. The Semantic Search Engine cannot connect with the backend server to access the repository. This could be due to a network error so please make sure you can successfully connect to the internet. If this is not the problem then most probably the connection has timed out. If this is the case then in the next attempt you should be able to connect with the server. If the problem seems to persist after a few attempts then the backend is probably shut down for maintenance. |

When I try to load an ontology the interface hangs and is not responsive for a long time. Sometimes an ontology is quite large and usually also imports other ontologies as well. This can take a while, especially if the ontology is being accessed for the first time after storage and has not yet been cached. Another reason could be a poor network connection or that a big load is being placed on our server by a large number of clients - keep in mind that this is just a prototype for the moment and not much load balancing takes place. |

Sometimes the results of the query are being displayed in different formats. Is this a problem? No this is certainly not a problem. This may be confusing at first but this is a choice we made to ensure that there is some level of integration of the Semantic Search Engine with the When you are searching for something that is stored in the Shape Repository, for example, the results are shown in the format used to display shapes in the repository. Something similar happens when you are searching for tools. These are displayed in the familiar format used by the Tool Repository. We believe this is helpful because these pages are customized to provide additional information that is potentially relevant to your query and may be of interest to you. On the other hand, if what you are searching for is neither a shape nor a tool, the results are displayed in the Graphical Query Results page. |
