Query formulation

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

There are two ways for formulating a geometric query. These are explained in the following.

Query by selection

Query by selection can be simply formulated by selecting a shape among the available ones in the field Shape list. When a shape is selected from the Shape list, the field Shape Descriptors changes by displaying only the available descriptors for the selected shape. Analogously when the user selects a shape descriptor, the list of comparison tools shown in the field Comparison Methodologies changes showing the tools available for the selected descriptor. The button “compare selected shape” submits the query to the system.

Query by example

Query by example can be formulated by using the “browse” and “upload” buttons. Once the shape is uploaded the user has to select the shape descriptor and the comparison methodoloy according to the user needs. Pressing the “Compare Uploaded File” button the system extracts the descriptor by the shapes and compare it with the shape models contained in the DSW whose descriptors are comparable with the one selected by the user.
